Civil Litigation

The attorneys in the Firm’s Civil Litigation Division have substantial experience defending and prosecuting litigation in state trial courts, federal district courts, the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and various federal and state administrative agencies, such as the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The Firm regularly litigates in many different areas of the law. However, much of the Firm’s litigation time is devoted to addressing the variety of issues that arise out of the representation of municipalities and municipal corporations. These issues include, but are not limited to: construction and procurement, sovereign immunity, eminent domain, zoning, land use, labor and employment, and negligent and intentional torts.

The attorneys practicing in the Firm’s Civil Litigation Division often advocate on behalf of public and private-sector clients seeking to protect rights arising out of landlord-tenant relationships, including issues of fair housing law. In addition, the Firm represents many private-sector clients in the defense of a wide range of general civil matters, including contract, employment, and other general business disputes
